About Us
Saskatoon Track & Field Club
A Legacy of Excellence Since 1948
The Saskatoon Track and Field Club was established in 1948, at a time when the sport was rebuilding following the disruption of World War II. In those early years, resources were limited, coaching knowledge was still developing, and opportunities to compete were few. There were no indoor competitions, and outdoor meets were scarce across the country.
Despite these challenges, the club’s founding athletes and coaches showed remarkable determination. Within just a few years, they began achieving success at provincial and national levels, setting records and establishing Saskatoon as a recognized hub for track and field in Canada. That legacy of excellence continues to define the club today.
Club Colours & Early Support
The club’s colours, royal blue and gold, are shared with the Saskatoon Hilltops Football Club. This connection reflects an important part of the club’s early history, as the Hilltops provided financial support during the club’s formative years, encouraging athletes to participate in both sports.
Competing on the National & World Stage
Saskatoon’s growing reputation led to the city hosting the National Outdoor Senior Championships in 1958, 1960, 1963, and 1967. During this time, many club athletes captured national titles and earned spots on Olympic, Commonwealth, and Pan American Games teams.
That tradition of high performance continues today. At the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, Saskatoon Track and Field Club athletes proudly represented Canada:
- Michelle Harrison – 100m Hurdles
- Savannah Sutherland – 400m Hurdles / 4x400m Relay
- Ashlyn Renneberg – F13 Javelin

Building for the Future
The club has played a key role in developing track and field facilities in Saskatoon. In 1965, a portable indoor track was designed and constructed, allowing the city to host its first indoor meets and enabling year-round training.
This momentum continued with the installation of an artificial track surface at Griffiths Stadium in 1979, followed by the opening of the Saskatoon Field House in 1980. These facilities helped elevate athlete development and ensured Saskatoon remained competitive on the national stage.
For over 75 years, the Saskatoon Track and Field Club has been more than a training ground — it has been a community dedicated to growth, resilience, and excellence in sport.
