STFC Para Athletics
What is Para Athletics?

adapted through classification and supportive equipment to ensure fair and exciting
competition.

Distance (5,000m, 10,000m), and Relay races (4x100m)
Road event: Marathon
Jumping events: High Jump, Long Jump, and Triple Jump
Throwing events: Discus, Shot Put, Club Throw and Javelin
Pathways & Opportunities
Para athletics offers opportunities for athletes at every stage. From beginners trying the sport
for fun, to athletes aiming for the Paralympic Games.
At the local level, athletes can get started through clubs such as the Saskatoon Track and Field
Club. Local meets in Saskatoon and across Saskatchewan provide the chance to try events, build
skills, and experience competition in a supportive environment. These entry points are a great
way to connect with coaches, teammates, and the para sport community while exploring
different events in track and field.

For those who want to push even further, there are both national and international
opportunities available. At the national level, athletes can compete in major meets such as the
Legion National Youth Track & Field Championships, the National Track & Field Tour, and the
Canadian Championships, where para events are featured alongside able-bodied competitions.
On the international stage, athletes may qualify for events like the World Para Athletics
Championships, the Parapan American Games, and ultimately, the Paralympic Games. These
competitions bring together the best athletes in the world and highlight the incredible depth of
talent within para athletics. Canada has a proud history in the sport, with athletes reaching the
podium at every Paralympic Games since 1968.
No matter the level, there are opportunities to grow, compete, and be part of a supportive
community in para athletics.
